Hello, I’m Grant French. I have been a carpenter for over 20 years, and for the last 10 years have been working for French and Thorley.
In that time I have been involved in a wide range of projects. For eight years I worked as a shop fitter, working all over the country carrying out refurbishments for banks, building societies and domestic property in London.
These projects often involved all aspects of building and a lot of traveling and meeting trades’ people from all walks of life I like a challenge and take pride in my work. I always have the attitude of completing projects to the standards I would expect in my own home.
At times running your own business can be stressful, but in the last 10 years have built a team around us with the same attitude and experience as us. We have resisted the temptation of expanding, as we only carry out a few projects at the same time.
We are hardworking, trustworthy, clean and tidy, enthusiastic, approachable, and carry out all our work with skill and integrity.
In my spare time I enjoy windsurfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, golf, walking and of course spending time with my wife and my children.
Hello I'm Rob Thorley, the elder partner in our family business.
I spent 20 years working for a local firm, Walter Llewellyn, five years as an apprentice in plumbing and heating.
Eventually I was running housing and hospital sites across the South of England, and had the responsibility of between six and 14 people working for me.
I believe in treating people fairly and justly and working with integrity. My policy is to treat people as I would want to be treated myself. I believe in good relationships with people which can produce friendships built on trust, which will enable this business to be successful for many years to come.
Grant is my son in-law, and I share my wealth of experience dealing with people with him, ensuring our business will last for years to come.
Our business is not built primarily on profit, but on truthfulness, trust, professionalism, and job satisfaction, something rarely found today. The bottom line is that we enjoy our work and the gratitude of our clients – sometimes even at the cost of profit.
Peace and mind and heartfelt gratitude cannot be bought but must be earned. Married for 48 years, I have two married daughters and grandchildren.
I used work part-time as a volunteer Chaplain on the cliffs of Beachy Head and have also been involved with ‘Mustard Seed’ and relief missions, which have taken me to places like Bosnia and Romania each year. It’s a blessing to bring joy into peoples lives whether through work of other means.
I get great pleasure out of giving my best in all circumstances of life.
